Our Story

It all started with an awkward first introduction on a hot August day in Chico, CA in 2010 that leads us to this country boy and city girl finally getting married.

Kelly’s story

It was the start of my senior year at CSU Chico and Cami (sister) was out of of town and needed me to come by to look after her dog, Sandy. She let me know that a guy named Jake had rented the extra room at the 326 house and was moving in that same week. I asked her if he was good looking and she quickly replied "don’t go there."

When I arrived at the house I saw through the window a man sitting in a camping chair in front of the TV watching the A’s game with his feet propped up on a crate. It was the perfect image of class. I knocked on the door and when he answered it was love at first sight. Till this day he likes to remind me and everyone else that I did not shake his hand when we were first introduced. I was so shy at that moment I couldn’t tell you if I even saw his hand or not. He slyly told me that he should get my number but only in case he needed help with the dog. That night he used that number to invite me to a BBQ instead.

Over the months that followed Jake became not only my boyfriend but my best friend. He is the person who knows me better than I know myself and I thank God every day for bringing us together. After three in a half years, Jake took me to Costa Rica and on March 24th FINALLY (as my Grandma’s put it) popped the question. I cannot wait till the big day to see all of you and celebrate our union as Mr. and Mrs. Tucker!

Jake's story

It was the start of Kelly’s senior year at CSU Chico State and my last semester. I was looking for a room to rent and it just so happened that I moved into the same house where Cami (Kelly’s sisters) was renting a room as well in the same house. Cami had a dog who was as about as shy as you could find, the dog wouldn’t come out from the backyard for anyone but Cami or Kelly. So one weekend Cami went out of town and asked Kelly to come and walk the dog. I was sitting watching baseball on that summer day when there was a knock on the door. Once I answered, there was this cute blonde who stood on the stoop, it was Kelly. She said ”I’m Cami’s sister” and then proceeded to turn away while I was attempting to shake her hand. I had never experienced a girl who “forgot” to properly introduce herself. I thought Kelly was being a brat, but the real story is that she was shy to meet me. From that day forward I tried to understand if Kelly had forgotten to shake my hand or if she actually liked me. I wanted to get to know her as soon as possible, so I then started to invite her over to all of the barbeques and gatherings. We always ended up, just the two of us, talking and laughing about everything under the sun.

Somewhere along the line I realized that she wasn’t just another girl, but someone who I would constantly seek out like a moth attracted to the light. It wasn’t until months later when I actually figured out that she liked me. We were at my Birthday dinner when one of my Grooms men, Chris said to me, “ hey, I think she really likes you”. As I looked over we caught eyes, and little did I know that cute blonde would be my wife. As we’ve grown through our differences and embraced our passion for one another, we have learned that we are truly best friends. I can’t wait to move to the next chapter!
